My wallpaper sort of flickers on startup. This started to happen after installing the new MacOs sierra. Please help.

I have the same issue where the screen flickers on startup right about when the Apple logo comes up. I noticed that this is related to the resolution set on the MacBook. I don't see the issue on the default 1280X800 but the issue occurs on higher resolutions than that on my MacBook Pro.

Setting the resolution to something lower might help for now until they fix the issue.

Seems like a lot of you are only experiencing this with Sierra. But I'm still running El Capitan and I'm suddenly now getting this very brief flickering on start-up. It's very short and it happens right when it switches from boot-screen to my desktop.

I've never seen this before and it just started doing it a couple of days ago. I use the 'more spaces' resolution and switching to default actually helped similar to what some of you've experienced. But it's kinda annoying since I don't want to run in default resolution.

Am I the only one experiencing this with El Capitan?

Dear all I need your help as i have a brand new macbook pro 2016 and after initializing from my time machine backup and updating sierra to latest version 10.12.3, it randomly happens that only the wallpaper / background flashes black for half a second, during normal usage, but pointer, opened windows, dock, etc... still remain displayed (i.e. No blacking).

Note that the screen resolution is set at default and that I do not remember to have ever seen a similar behaviour on my old macbook (sold in December 2016) even with sierra.

1- Has anyone remarked a similar behavior, please?

2- if it were a h/w problem, all the screen should flash black shouldn't it?

i am still in time for a return but since this is my second already (the first one having an evident uneven screen under white color) and, since it looks good, I want to be sure not to make a change for a s/w issue.

may you please advise about both points here above please?

thanks a lot

Emanuele

I just had a lengthy talk through apple's chat support but to no avail. I had the mac reset its NVRAM as well as its SMC, shifted to safeboot down to deleting the caches but the problem persisted. I tried scaling the resolution down to default, and the problem is solved. However, that did not give me any rest at all as I never had this problem with El Capitan even scaling the display down to the highest resolution. Though they said it doesnt seem to be a hardware problem.

Same issue for me. On boot, the Apple logo will briefly blink red and then continue the boot. Just as the wallpaper comes up, the screen briefly flickers -- kind of a scary multi-colored something is wrong kinda flicker -- and then everything runs fine from there. My iMac is a stock 2105 21.5 Retina with the 2TB Fusion drive. No mods or upgrades. Not sure why this update to MacOS Sierra didn't go smoothly.
